What is the general process of using WaterCAD or WaterGEMS to select (size) a pump?
The general approach typically used to select pumps is:1. Create the pipe network model2. Insert a pump with a rough estimate of a reasonable pump head curve3. Make some model runs4. Generate a system head curve5. Obtain pump head curves for some likely pumps6. Enter them in the model and see what their operating points are7. Make sure they will be operating near their best efficiency point8. Look at how they will be operated (on/off setpoints, continuous running) with an EPS (Extended Period Simulation) model9. Perform some energy calculations to find the pumps with the best life cycle costs
Note: if you have a closed system with no downstream storage, there are some considerations with regard to viewing the system head curve. See article below.
