Problem

Can water distribution products (WaterGEMS, WaterCAD) and storm/sewer collection products (SewerGEMS, SewerCAD, StormCAD, CivilStorm) be used concurrently (ie. integrated)?

How to model a storm/sewer collection system that discharges to a waste water treatment plant and then is distributed in a potable water system?

Solution

Water distribution products and storm/sewer collection products use different numerical solvers and can't be integrated. There is however a way to model such a system with both product types being solved independently.

For example, SewerGEMS can be used to model the storm/sewer network and waste water treatment plant. Then the outfall data from the storm/sewer network can be used to model the water distribution network's source using a variety of methods. This includes using a tank, a fixed HGL at a reservoir, negative demand (inflow) with pattern set to match the hydrograph from the outfall, or one of the methods provided in the articles below.
