When installing version 10.00.00.55, 10.00.00.45, or 10.03.05.05 of the Water products, one of the following error messages is generated:

"0xfffff95a - Unspecified error "

"0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation"

"0x80070642 - Fatal error during installation"

"0x80070422 - Failed to execute EXE package"

"0xffffffff - Failed to execute EXE package"

"0x80070641 - The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"

1) Close running applications

First, ensure that an older version of the product is not already running. Check the taskbar as well as the Processes list in the Windows Task Manager.

2) Reboot Computer

This issue is often due to a pending reboot condition. In other words, the Operating System is waiting for the user to reboot, which prevents installation of our software. First, try rebooting the computer and then install the water or storm/sewer product once more. Future versions will provide a more clear message in this case.

3) CONNECTION Client

If the issue still continues, it may be related to the installation of CONNECTION Client. A CONNECTION Client installer is included with the installation file for the water or storm/sewer products. If the installation of CONNECTION Client fails, the error message above will be generated.

To resolve this issue, try installing CONNECTION Client first. You can download this from the Software Downloads section of the CONNECTION Center. Search for the latest version of CONNECTION Client and download and install it on the computer. Once this is completed, you can try installing the water or storm/sewer product again.

4) Out of disk space

The "0x80070643" error can also occur if you have run out of disk space. Check the available space on the drive that you selected to install to. If disk space is too low, delete unnecessary files or install to a different drive with adequate free space.

5) Antivirus restrictions

In some cases during a recent study, this error "0x80070643" can occur due to security software on your computer such as Antivirus, anti-malware, or built-in Windows security functions which may restrict the installation process. So kindly disable the security software before installing the application. If the error continues please contact Bentley's Technical support.

6) Install or repair .NET Framework

In some cases, this issue was resolved after installing or repairing Microsoft .NET Framework components. This is a prerequisite component for the OpenFlows products.

See this article for which version the of .NET Framework is required. Related Windows updates or .NET Framework may also be required, and a restart of the computer may be necessary before attempting to reinstall the OpenFlows product.

7) Scripting issue, requiring updated installation file

If a reboot or reinstallation of the CONNECTION Client does not resolve the issue, you may have encountered a more rare situation where the setup cannot execute certain scripts. This can happen due to security software on your computer such as Antivirus, anti-malware, security suite, or potentially even built-in Windows security functions. Starting with CONNECT Edition Update 3 (10.03.XX.XX), the installation files have been amended to skip over cases where such issues prevent the installation from completing. Click here for information on upgrading, once this version is available. While this can enable you to install the software, you will not be able to integrate with AutoCAD/MicroStation/ArcMap.

If you need to use an older version - after the error appears, open File Explorer (Windows Explorer), type "%temp%" in the address bar, press enter (to navigate to the Windows Temp folder), sort by modified date, then look at the most recently updated files. You should see a file with the OpenFlows product name in the file name, ending with .msi.log. Open this file and search for the term "FindMicroStationParentPath". If you find an instance of this that indicates a failure, please contact Technical Support for assistance. Note that future versions will no longer have this issue.

8) Visual C++ Runtime Redistributable installation failing

The "0x80070643" error has been known to occur in two cases on Windows 11 due to a failure occurring during the installation of the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime redistributable prerequisite (also referred to as "VC9".) From examining the installation log, the following is observed:

Applying execute package: vc9redist_x86.exe, action: Install, path: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\470640AA4BB7DB8E69196B5EDB0010933569E98D\vc9redist_x86.exe, arguments: '"C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\470640AA4BB7DB8E69196B5EDB0010933569E98D\vc9redist_x86.exe" /q:a /c:"msiexec /i vcredist.msi /qn"'
Error 0x80070643: Process returned error: 0x643

First, on at least one occasion this has been known to occur because Antivirus was blocking the VC9 installation. So, fi,rst try adding an exception to your antivirus/security software or try temporarily disabling it.

If this does not help, try downloading and installing VC9 from Microsoft and install it separately. If VC9 on its own does not install and your local IT/Helpdesk cannot determine the cause, you may need to contact Microsoft for assistance.

Note also Windows 11 is only officially supported for version 10.03.* and newer.  Check the following article for compatibility: Platform Compatibility

9) 0x80070641 - Major issues with the user's operating system

This issue points toward the users' Windows Installer system not working properly, which would likely prevent all installations (not just Bentley software), and the user should contact their local IT/Helpdesk (if available) to resolve the issue. There are some very basic troubleshooting like

  1. Check for a "Pending Reboot" since installing the latest Windows Updates.
  2. Check for Microsoft Windows updates and Reboot.
  3. Check for Microsoft Office updates and Reboot.
  4. Try a registry cleanup utility like mentioned here.
  5. Link to a general Microsoft article like this.
