Problem

When editing Chart Options for a graph some of the settings are not being retained when re-opening the saved graph.

Solution

The user can use the "Save Chart Options as Default" from the dropdown button in the top-left corner of a graph, but currently only certain customizations are able to be persisted. The following graph chart option settings currently will not be retained after they are edited:

  • Graph Title (Chart -> Titles, Header selection in drop-down (other titles persist and restore)
  • Axes Scales (Chart -> Axes -> Scales)
    • This includes the minimum, maximum and increment values as well as the “Auto” and “Automatic” checkboxes.
    • This applies to all axes in the graph (left, bottom and any custom axes created)
  • Axes Title (Chart -> Axes -> Title, Title textbox)
    • This value is automatically set to the label of the field being graphed and includes any unit (if applicable)
  • Axes Position (Chart -> Axes -> Position)
    • The Start % and End % for each axes (primary the Y-axes) are set so they don’t overlap each other.
  • Axes value format (Chart -> Axes -> Labels -> Format)
    • The values format is automatically set and is based on the formatter for the field being graphed.  The format, primarily the precision, can be set in the Units tab of the options dialog (or by right-clicking the axis and selecting the “<Field Label> Properties…” menu item.  This will open the “Units and Formatting” dialog for field’s formatter.
  • The data for each series is automatically applied.

If you are creating graphs to be inserted into reports, once you have the graph looking the way you want, it is suggested that you copy it to the clipboard using Copy button in the toolbar at the top of the page and insert into your report or presentation before closing. Alternatively, if you are in Chart Options, you can select “Export” from the top row of tabs and either copy it to the clipboard or save it as a file for later use using Save. You can save it in a variety of formats such as JPEG, PNG or GIF. Do this before closing the graph.
