Problem

How to display loading polygons with dashed lines leading to corresponding nodes.
Polygons representing loading areas can be attached as a background, however if a polygon contains multiple nodes it may be difficult to identify which manhole the loading is being applied to.

Solution

1. Use ModelBuilder to import the shapefile polygons as catchments.

Note: After running LoadBuilder, the field "HMINNODE" or "HMINLINK" field will be created in the Shapefile that was used to import the loads. These fields keep track of which node (the ID, not the label) each polygon was allocated to. If you used LoadBuilder to import the polygon loading data, then when importing them in ModelBuilder, map this field to the "Outflow Element" field.

2. Associate the catchments to the correct manholes. If you have a relatively small number of polygons, it may be best to assign the outflow nodes manually.

3. Use the catchment FlexTable to globally set the runoff method to "None". This will avoid user notifications.

4. (Optional) If you are modeling a combined storm/sewer network that has catchments and loading boundaries, then it is a good idea to apply color coding to differentiate between catchments and loading data.

a. Create a user data extension for catchment elements that will allow you to specify if the polygon is a catchment or a loading boundary.

b. Open the catchment FlexTable, add the new user data extension field, and specify if the polygon is a load or catchment.

c. Set up color coding for the catchment elements that will display load polygons with a different color than the catchment polygons.
