Problem

What is the purpose of the "DMA Status" property in WaterGEMS and WaterCAD?

Solution

The DMA status property is a new property which now appears under the physical properties of an element in WaterGEMS or WaterCAD. This property is related to the new District Metered Areas (DMAs) tool launched with the CONNECT Edition Update 2 version 10.02.01.06 of WaterGEMS and WaterCAD.

The DMA status basically signifies the "status" of the element considered while generating DMAs. There are different types of status an element can have such as;

Boundary Candidate : This is a default property for all elements initially. This indicates that a pipe or node having this status is a potential boundary element and is to be considered for DMA generation

Boundary : This status is assigned to elements which are known boundaries in the system (E.g. pump house, sources such as tanks / reservoirs)

Transmission : This status is assigned to elements which are transmission mains which are generally not considered in DMA generation. Elements with this status will be excluded from DMA generation

Assigned : Once DMA generation is complete and the results are satisfactory the user can set "Assigned" status for the elements. Elements with this status are then identified as part of a DMA.
