Problem

I have a large number of patterns in my model that I need to delete. The pattern manager does not allow me to multi-select. How can I batch-delete (bulk delete) all patterns?

Solution

This can be accomplished with the "remove objects from destination if missing in source" option in ModelBuilder. In short, you would create a spreadsheet populated with column headers, but with no data in subsequent rows, then set up a ModelBuilder run to sync-in. With the "remove objects" setting in use, ModelBuilder will remove all existing patterns since they do not exist in the spreadsheet. For SewerGEMS, CivilStorm, StormCAD and SewerCAD, you will need to map your empty columns for two tables types: "Pattern" and "Patterns, Pattern curve".

As a shortcut, download the below ModelBuilder Connection file and pre-created spreadsheet and follow these steps:

mb patterns.mbc   mb patterns.xlsx

  1. Open your model and open ModelBuilder
  2. Click the import/export disk icon in the upper-left corner and choose "import connection", then select the "mb patterns.mbc" file
  3. Choose to select the new location of the "mb patterns.xlsx" file and select the location where you saved it.
  4. Click the "mb patterns" entry in the ModelBuilder manager and click the "sync in to model" button at the top.
  5. Click Yes, review and close the summary screen, close the ModelBuilder manager, then open the pattern manager which should be empty now.
