Problem

When computing a model with the GVF-Convex (StormCAD) solver, the following user notification appears:

"The controls in the conduit are ignored by this solver"

What does this mean?

Solution

This notification is referring to start and stop control structures on a conduit, which can be used with the other numerical solvers (GVF-Convex-SewerCAD, Implicit dynamic and Explicit SWMM) to model in-line control structures like orifices and weirs. See more on conduit control structure here: Using Start and Stop Control Structures for conduits and channels

When you are using StormCAD or when the solver is set to GVF-Rational in CivilStorm or SewerGEMS, the start and stop control structure input fields in the conduit properties disappear (since they are not supported), but the user notification in question appears to make you aware of this, since you may want to know that the conduit will no longer model a control structure.

If you obtained the model from someone else, it is possible that the model was originally set to use one of the other solvers and someone had specified a control structure on one or more conduits.

If you are OK with this assumption, you can ignore the user notification and accept this limitation. Otherwise if you need to account for the control structure headloss, you will need to either switch your solver (note that only the GVF-Rational solver is available in StormCAD) or you will need to use other methods such as a reducing the pipe diameter or adding a structure loss.
