"Error in the Application" error message when opening existing model file

Problem

A user is getting an error message when opening an existing WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, or HAMMER V8i SELECTseries 3 model. First, the file import wizard dialog is displayed. When you click Ok, an error box appears that says "Error in the application" and the model will not open.

Background

During the import process, the DAO360.dll file is all that is commonly used in the model conversation. That is part of the workstation operating system and not something that needs to be installed separately. However, from time to time, there is a registration issue with the file. With that in mind, try the following steps.

How to Resolve

1) Make sure all related programs are closed

2) Open your windows explorer and browse to this folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\ (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\ on a 64-bit machine)

3) Right click the Dao360.dll file, choose to open with and then browse to the regserver program, located here:  C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32.exe

You should receive a message stating that the module is registered. Once this is done, you should be able to open the file.
