What is a .BAK file?
A .BAK file is a backup file. This backup file can be for any of our programs file types. For example, if you have a WaterGEMS model you might have a backup file for the .WTG, .WTG.SQLITE, .WTG.DWH. These would be .WTG.BAK, .WTG.SQLITE.BAK, and .WTG.DWH.BAK. The backup files provide some insurance just in case something happens to one of the other files.
Also, note that backup files might have a number associated with them if there are more than 1 .BAK file. For example, .WTG.01.BAK.
Browse to the location of the project files
Delete, move, or add a .BAK extension to the file that you think might have a problem
Right click on the backup file that you want to restore and choose to "Rename" the file
Remove the .BAK extension or the .##.BAK extension, where ## is some number
Try to reopen the file and see if that fixes the issue
