V8i SS3 Microstation crashes when doing File Save in a dwg file

I am using V8i SS3 08-11-09-459.  I have been given a project that is to remain in AutoCad format.  The autocad files are R2013.  I can open them, work in them, print them, etc. however I can not save any changes without microstation crashing.  If I try to do FILE, SAVE it crashes.  If I try to FILE, OPEN to go to another file it crashes.  I have sent in the exception logs and a help request but thought I would see if the community might offer assistance while I await repsonse.  TIA

Update:  AutoCad file description said R2013 so I had set MS_Realdwg_version = 2013.  I tried changing this to MS_Realdwg_version = 2014.  I can now perform the FILE SAVE without a complete crash, but there is still a stream of errors in message center "cannot find a dll or other file that it needs" c:\program...\realdwg\aeccpressurepipes.dbx and many others.  So progress in that I don't get a complete crash but obviously my settings are still not correct.  Hopefully someone out there can offer their expertise in this area.  Thanks.

  • Does this file contain Civil 3D objects? Could you please attach a test file.

    Thanks,

    Lily

    This is a test

  • This is not a Civil 3d project.  I have attached a sample file.

  • We have tried your file on a couple of boxes here but unable to reproduce a crash.  However, we did see a couple of issues that may cause problems.  This is an R2013 Civil3D DWG file.  You probably only want to edit it in RealDWG 2013 as otherwise your AEC objects will not be able to be used again in C3D R2013.  Secondly this is a corrupted DWG file.  Lots of C3D objects are corrupted, mostly of type AeccDbNetworkRule.  You may want to fix them in C3D R2013 via Recover and perhaps also a purge.

The error message you reported about missing aeccpressurepipes.dbx suggests that you may have a bad C3D object enabler installed on RealDWG 2014.  You may want to uninstall C3D OE if it still installed, uninstall RealDWG 2014 and then re-install RealDWG 2014.  This is only to fix your RealDWG 2014 installation.  You probably do not want to save your C3D R2013 file using RealDWG 2014, unless you no longer will open this file in C3D R2013 again.

  • Thanks for checking on the sample file however I am still not certain how to proceed?  How do you determine the version of the file?  When I listed properties it merely stated R2013?  Determining autocad file versions seems critical in proceeding with AutoCad files yet I don't know how to do this. ( I do not have AutoCad or Civil3D Installation).  Also, I am perplexed as how I can use Realdwg 2013, in that if it won't allow me to exit or save a file without a microstation crash.  Is it possible that corruption is caused by my errors in trying to open in wrong version of Realdwg or in the numerous crashes?

When you say uninstall RealDWG 2014, does that mean microstation installation as well.  I don't know if this is a separate program or included with microstation. When I view the installation list I see RealDWG2012, 2013sp1.1, and 2014?   Also, I just installed the 2014 C3D OE yesterday to try to get this to work, is this something I should have avoided?  I have other OE installed as well.  I thought the OE's were required in order to be able to view C3D items and use RealDWG, no? I appreciate your assistance.

  • DWG version is different than an object's version in the DWG file.  When you open a DWG file in MicroStation without an object enabler, you'd get a message in the Message Center, like this:

    Object Enablers are missing...

    Application: AeccLand100

    Product Desc: AutoCAD Civil 3D

    Company: Autodesk,Inc.

    WEB Address: www.autodesk.com

Enabler needed by 0 nongraphic objects, 1 graphic objects (1 do not have proxy graphics and will not display)

The suffix 100 in the application name suggests the object's version.  It is possible your C3D objects initially came from an older version but were updated to a newer version when you did a save using RealDWG2013.  It is also possible that the corruption was caused by the update.  A way to find that out is to get the original DWG file to compare.  Ask your file provider which version of C3D he/she has created the file from, then make sure you use the same version of RealDWG.  You can install multiple versions of RealDWG on your box and SS3 will use one of them as you tell it to (via MS_REALDWG_VERSION).  If you have seen all 3 versions (2012, 2013, and 2014), you have all that SS3 supports.  You just need to make sure by installing/unintalling OE's you did not corrupt the installation.  Then just pick the one to use based on the C3D version your file provider has provided to you.
