Have you ever received a services alert message when opening the Administrative Website saying that the Bentley SELECTServer service was not running? Upon attempting to start the service(s) you received an ASP.NET Access Denied error message? Ever wonder why this happens and what can be done about it?
This happens because the ASP.NET account does not have the correct permissions to access the Bentley SELECTServer website's content directories. The ASP.NET account gets created after the installation of MicroSoft Framework and by default does not have administrative privileges. It's primary function is running the asp.net worker process within MicroSoft Internet Information Services, allowing ASP.NET to run on the local web server. Once configured in (IIS), the ASP.NET account is allowed to carry out the necessary tasks for the Bentley SELECTServer application.
As a workaround, you can add the ASP.NET user account to the Power Users group on the SELECTServer, thus allowing you to manage the services from the SELECTServer Administrative website instead of having to do this from Windows services. You will then need to restart Internet Information Services (IIS). These changes are not instant and a reboot may be needed to take effect.
After performing Windows Update and restarting the server, Bentley Select Server are now starting.
I also experiencing the same problem with Bentley Select Server, I was not able to start the services.
See below error for details:
ACCESS DENIED - THE ASPNET USER ACCOUNT HAS INSUFFICIENT RIGHTS TO START/ STOP THE BENTLEY SELECT SERVER SERVICE. USE THE WINDOWS SERVICE CONTROL PANEL TO START OR STOP THE SERVICE.
I tried the solution above, but still same error.
I tried the starting the service for .net framework and restarting the IIS services, still same error.
Can someone help me.
