When attempting to “Start” the Bentley SELECTserver service, you may receive the following message:"Error 1068: Windows could not start the Bentley SELECTserver service on local Computer. The dependency service or group failed to start".
This typically happens when the SELECTserver service has dependencies listed which are not started. This can occur when upgrading the SELECTserver while having multiple SQL Server instances installed. The SELECTserver service assigns as dependencies for all SQL instances that currently exist.
To resolve this problem, you can either start the service(s) listed as dependencies of the SELECTserver or remove them if they are no longer applicable. To remove the dependencies, first verify the SQL Service(s) that will be used as a dependency of the Bentley SELECTserver service. Open the Bentley SELECTserver service and click properties and select the Dependencies tab.
From a command prompt type the following:sc config “Bentley SELECT Server” depend= MSSQL$SELECTSERVER
Enter the SQL service dependency name to assign. By default, in the example above we will “assign” the MSSQL$SELECTSERVER component as the dependency. This may vary depending on what version of SQL Server is installed or SQL Instance used.
Note: This command will only assign the component entered as a dependency of the Bentley SELECTserver service and remove all others. Start the Bentley SELECTserver service.
