Bentley CONNECTIONS passport and visa

Hi,

Could someone please explain exactly difference and use of passport vs visa?  According to the link below, it said passport can use for PW apps including Navigator (I assume it means both CONNECT and DGN versions), but support said otherwise.

And visa can be used for PW Deliverables Management, what does PW Project Sharing use then? Passport or visa. What if the user is from external company collaborating with us using PWDM and/or PWPS, do they get charged for the use or do we get charged to pay for their use?

Are those mentioned in the link still true with Bentley Cloud Services Subscription/PW CONNECTION Services?

Please clarify as I could not locate the info I need for these.  Thanks.

  • Permit me to clarify one of the points. The CONNECTIONS Passport provides a license that activates the DGN versions of Bentley Navigator. However, the CONNECT editions of Bentley Navigator require a different license that is only offered through a Cloud Services Subscription. Attempts to use the CONNECT edition otherwise will cause the product to open in trial mode. As an important side note, I have confirmed internally that overages caused by such use will not be charged.

  • Thank you for responding. According to Bentley store for Navigator Connect edition, it requires Connections passport, didn't mention any different license required (I presume Visa) as you suggested. This is the kind of ambiguity that no clear detailed licensing info for products that customers need to have for making informed purchase decision. Some fact sheet/product license matrix should be published.

  • The link you provided refers to the Navigator Mobile app for iOS which is different than the desktop product. The CONNECTIONS Passport includes a Navigator Mobile license.

  • Now that's exactly what I meant. No where on Bentley website tells about the two Navigator Connect Edition (mobile and desktop) will need different license types, until you point it out. Let alone PW Deliverables Management and PW Sharing Services license access requirements.

For the Navigator Connect edition, could I confirm if I understand correctly here that the mobile app version requires only passport, desktop version requires only visa and works only when Cloud Services Subscription is active? Running desktop version without CSS active for a site will Only get in trial demo mode and will not get charged?

But we seem to be able to run the desktop version and log on to Enterprise project portal and view file from there. I'm sure we have not activated CSS and bought any visa, we only have passports. This somehow seems not matching the license requirement for Navigator Connect edition you mentioned, hope we are not getting surprise Quarterly Term Licensing bill shock!

Yes, your understanding is correct. I confirmed with a Navigator product specialist that Navigator Mobile only requires the CONNECTIONS Passport.. I also verified that the desktop version of Navigator CONNECT edition requires only a visa provided through a Cloud Services Subscription. I reconfirmed that attempts to use the desktop version of Navigator CONNECT edition apart from a visa will cause the product to run in trial mode and that such usage will not be considered for billing purposes.

Are users of the desktop version running the CONNECT edition or an earlier edition such as V8i? As mentioned originally, editions prior to the CONNECT edition are covered by the CONNECTIONS Passport. Only the CONNECT edition requires a visa. If running the CONNECT Edition apart from a visa, note that the product is still functional during the trial period.

The following table provides a summary of what licenses are required for Navigator products:

    Product

    License Required

Navigator V8i or earlier (desktop) CONNECTIONS Passport
Navigator CONNECT edition (desktop) Visa provided through Cloud Services Subscription
    Navigator Mobile CONNECTIONS Passport
