Bentley CONNECTIONS passport and visa

Hi,

Could someone please explain exactly difference and use of passport vs visa?  According to the link below, it said passport can use for PW apps including Navigator (I assume it means both CONNECT and DGN versions), but support said otherwise.

And visa can be used for PW Deliverables Management, what does PW Project Sharing use then? Passport or visa. What if the user is from external company collaborating with us using PWDM and/or PWPS, do they get charged for the use or do we get charged to pay for their use?

Are those mentioned in the link still true with Bentley Cloud Services Subscription/PW CONNECTION Services?

Please clarify as I could not locate the info I need for these.  Thanks.

  • Permit me to clarify one of the points. The CONNECTIONS Passport provides a license that activates the DGN versions of Bentley Navigator. However, the CONNECT editions of Bentley Navigator require a different license that is only offered through a Cloud Services Subscription. Attempts to use the CONNECT edition otherwise will cause the product to open in trial mode. As an important side note, I have confirmed internally that overages caused by such use will not be charged.

  • Thank you for responding. According to Bentley store for Navigator Connect edition, it requires Connections passport, didn't mention any different license required (I presume Visa) as you suggested. This is the kind of ambiguity that no clear detailed licensing info for products that customers need to have for making informed purchase decision. Some fact sheet/product license matrix should be published.

  • What version is installed on you iPad? I see some Navigator Mobile usage for you back in June 2016 for version 5.5.2.23, but the only version available for download now is 6.1.1. Is this the version installed on your iPad? If so, I see no usage for it.

  • I no longer have it on my Ipad, I was testing it for potential use. The usage you found for June 2016 was the only time I used it. It was then that using my login from work to go the Bentley portal showed up on the SELECT reports as Bentley Passport usage. Since that time I have been looking for answers on How can passport usage be denied, restricted or granted/assigned? what effect could Bentley Passport usage have in our corporation as far a generating unbudgeted, unapproved costs.
  • After consulting internally, I learned that Navigator Mobile is an i-model viewer that can display data from multiple sources, one of which is ProjectWise. I was mistakenly under the impression that it worked with ProjectWise exclusively. Consequently, the point of control is the user's Bentley login, not a ProjectWise login as originally thought. This would explain why usage was accrued during your test last June.  If a user configures the app with a Bentley login associated with your organization, then usage for CONNECTIONS Passport will be reported for your organization whenever the app is used. If users do not require access to mobile apps or CONNECT Edition products and services (such as the Personal Portal), you can delete their Bentley login from the User Management portal to remove their association with the organization.

  • Thank you for the information Jeremy. It appears that is it an all or nothing for the Connect Edition products and services and the Bentley Personal portal, that is unfortunate.
  • Hi Jeremy, it appears that the mobile apps are the issue in generating unexpected unapproved Passport usage once staff are added as a user of our organization. Does Bentley intend on closing this vulnerability. We will not be allowing our staff to be added as users to our organization if they don't change this vulnerability. Meaning our staff won't be able to take advantage of the Connect advisor benefits, the LEARN benefits and access to the personal portal or projects. We have no way of controlling a user who will download a mobile app and then to login to as a user in our organization. This is a BIG ISSUE for us, it is holding up our upgrade to the Connect Edition applications. No answers on how to manage it are being provided by Bentley tech support or any other Bentley representatives. We have over 350 installs across many different departments and buildings. Full time staff and consultants and contractors who need access to Bentley applications.
