How does Bentley SELECT Server work?

Hi,

If we have one license, can we install Bentley MicroStation on 2 or 3 computers assuming the second computer cannot get the license if someone already has the license.

I had the assumption like that, but I was wrong.  The second computer can open Bentley but it changed into a Disconnect Mode.

When I closed the program on 1st computer, then go back to 2nd computer, I tried to activate the software, it won't let me do it until I restart the computer.

Is there a way for the second computer get notification if someone has already grab the license?

OR

The other way around is to checkout the license whoever open the program.

Let me know if checking out license is the option we have to do.

Thanks,

  • The SELECTserver licensing system does not generate real-time notifications of product use. Instead, usage is recorded locally by client machines and transmitted to the license server on the next day a Bentley product is used. If your computer has lapsed into a disconnected mode, it was unsuccessful the last time a usage transmission was attempted. The computer will retry automatically the next day a Bentley product is used, but you can manually try again immediately by opening the License Management Tool and selecting Send Logs Now from the Tools menu. If problems persist, I recommend the following activation troubleshooting guide to restore a connection.

Many users have implemented a checkout-only workflow to limit term licensing usage (i.e. usage in excess of owned licenses). It is not a required workflow, but it is worth consideration if you do not know when the other two computers are utilizing your product.
