Getting billed for Using LumenRT designer, that is supposed to be free/ included in the Microstation license

Hi

We are getting billed for Using LumenRT designer, that software is supposed to be free/ included in the Microstation license that we have. ( was included from Microstation connect update 8 ). Has anyone else had the same problem?

This is very anoying, and Bentley have not been able to fix this issue even after having reported this several months ago.

  • How to run LumenRT Designer(Product ID 2695) in designer mode? Is there a command line switch? As It still also activates Bentley LumenRT(Product ID 2517) on first run and next time runs as LumenRT.

  • It seems LumenRT doesn't recognize Contextcapture Editor(ProductID:2646) as companion product so it doesn't run in Designer mode.

  • The 7-day trial will only appear if:

    1) You don't have a valid LumenRT full version activation

    2) You don't have a valid Bentley Connect product

  • The 7-day trial will appear and logs will be sent:

    1. If there is no internet connection at some point and valid companion product is not reactivated for some reason
    2. Even if you have valid product it may not recognize it in current version or stop recognize in next versions by some mistake. As it is now issue with Contextcapture Editor(ST7000809309)
    3. If other user opens LumenRT on same machine it will run in 7-day full trial and can get billed because the trial could  have been already exhausted previously.

It would be better if LumenRT would run in Designer edition trial by default and run in full mode only if explicity triggered because  LumenRT deactivation doesn't work. As you can see from LumenRT_RunTime.log even if productid 2517 is not found and at the same time for some reason doesn't validate companion product it runs as LumenRT full and reregisters itself.

  • Hi Oto,

The points you raise are good ones.  All of these issues with acitvation/deisgner mode will go away with the new Bentley Connect Licensing manager which will be introduced in LumenRT Update 11 or 12 this year.  Under Connect Licensing, there is no more machine based activation.  Instead, your CAD/IT manager can set whatever usage rights they desire by machine, user, group, etc.

  • To be clear, CONNECT Licensing will NOT allow you to set a license limit that can't be exceeded - meaning you can't create a hard cap.  What it does provide is a warning that you are about to exceed your limit (a value you can control).  It also will allow you to restrict certain users or groups from using a particular application(s).  You can see more information on this here: https://communities.bentley.com/products/licensing/w/licensing__wiki/37813/connect-licensing

    Thanks

  • How it comes that when installing LumenRT Designer which is bundled with Contextcapture Editor it clearly shows that it comes with no additional cost but actually it installs LumenRT full as it doesn't recognize Contextcapture Editor as companion(see screenshot above)? It is clearly a mistake.
