What a surprise! Last night I was using MicroStation CONNECT; this morning 07-Nov-19 I can't. In Bentley Licensing I see this...
What happened to my entitlement to MicroStation CONNECT? I can continue to use MicroStation V8i, which receives a valid license.
Why, in the wacky world of Bentley licensing, can I continue to use CONNECT Advisor, Connection Client and MicroStation V8i?
It was technical demonstration that license capping is possible using new CONNECT licensing.
So is there announcement regarding this event and what to do if it happens again?
well that was demonstrated several times the last 2 years. I stopped counting. Wonder why that stuff gets more stable. We need to stay functional even if our proxy or whatever fails.
My 50 Cents. A multi-billion $ german automomotive company with 100s (maybe 1000s) of Microstation licenses has issued a new CAD-Guideline 4 days ago, telling that the product they use is STILL MS-V8i SS4.
Only one month before support for ss4 runs out on 01.01.2020 !
And so they DEFINITELY STILL NOT use CONNECT Licensing although Select-Licensing is discontinued after 01.01.2021 !
Of course a company with so many licenses has a different Value to Bentley than our shed in the neck of the woods !
The same company has also issued a statement of their legal department that Bentleys terms of use for the Connection-Client (as for all cloud platforms) ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE TO THEM FOR PRIVACY REASONS at this moment !
So what might have happened:
mb$gac says: OK we know about the risk to run SS4 for one more year although support has been discontinued and every Windows-Patch may have hilarious consequences (thats very unlikely)
mb$gac said: Bentley come over, KNEEL and offer me a solution i can acccept and Bentley did it ?
mb$gac has secretly ditched Bentley and is using something else in the future ?
PS: the same mb$gac has ditched Dassault-Catia in favour of Siemens NX in the past, so they HAVE the Power to ditch Bentley as well.
