What do you mean by serial number? V8i is activated by activation key and not by serial number. You just use the same activation key for all computers. License is activated to machine so multiple users on the same machine can activate it without using additional licenses. To recover license from non working computer you need to know it's computer name and name the reinstalled computer with the same machine name. Otherwise if the account is non-SELECT then the license will only be freed automatically when the checkout expires(by default 1 year).
