How do I get a home version of Microstation

My company is giving us a chance to work from home and is there a way to get a home version of Microstation for temporary use?  Thanks

  • Hi Gary,

There is no home version of Microstation, you can use the same installed Microstation from home. Which version of Microstation are you using?

    Regards,

  • HI Gary,

my complement to Abhishek's answer: As far as I remember, when home use license existed in the past, it was not offered for working from home, but for self study, testing and playing. When the company decided to use home office (as recommended in many countries now), normal commercial licenses should be used.

You did not provide information about version you use, but when the licenses are hosted at Bentley server, both V8i and CE (plus V8i SS10 using the same licensing mechanism as CE) can be used from remote place easily.

    With regards,

  • So just to be clear, If I use a session at home to work on my home remodel project or the cab design for my personal tractor I would be drawing from our company license pool?  That was not how I thought the intention of that was at all.  Regardless, most of those hours are 'off-peak' for us, so it should not be an issue, but could with other companies I guess.  I understand the mistrust on Bentley's part, as I am sure this has been abused, but you might as well call it what it is.

We have a situation where a former retired employee has asked to use it for home projects.  Is that not allowed even though he is still associated with our account?  Is he forced to use one of our production licenses?  We are still allowed to let him have access to our production licenses after hours right?

  • Jan,

    You said:

"..both V8i and CE (plus V8i SS10 using the same licensing mechanism as CE) can be used from remote place EASILY" (emphasis added :) )

My understand is that CE can be used remotely, but if users have to be "off-line" (for those with poor internet connections - not everyone of Bentley's users lives in a major urban hub), you cannot count / control  license usage because you have to change a setting to turn off the requirement to validate with the Bentley hosted server, and therefore allow users to open a session without registering it AND ALSO you needed to open and application (Microstation CE) at least once with an active internet connection so that it will be able to record that setting status before going offline.  So it's not quite as cut and dried as your post would suggest, but I agree it is available.
