MicroStation maintenance agreement can I still use the software and use the Connection Client? l

If I end my my MicroStation maintenance agreement can I still use the software and use the Connection Client? I am currently using V8i version 08.11.09.829. In the "about" dialog box indicates the SELECTserver Name as selectserver.bentley.com. Could I still node lock the license and MicroStation would work? If I upgrade to the latest MicroStation can I still get the software to work without the maintenance agreement and the Connection Client?

  • Hi Al,

Yes still you will be able to use both the Microstation and CONNECTION client.

  • Hi Abhishek,

This may be the answer for single maintenance agreement, but will not be applicable to those are in a large company that uses Select. If my department in my company decides to end our agreement because we do not want to pay the annual fee (each department is charged the expense of what they use) we cannot do so without effecting the whole company. Bentley’s has “cover one cover all” policy. So we cannot cancel one without having to cancel all Select service agreement. We cannot obtain a node lock license due to this policy.

    Respectfully,

    Al

  • That seems to be a different question than you asked previously.

I believe it is possible to have node locked licences and subscription licenses in the same company; I certainly didn't see anything in Abhishek's response to say that you couldn't. The node-locked computers just wouldn't be connected to the license pool, and they wouldn't be eligible for update.

That sounds more like a situation that needs to be taken up with your management than Bentley.

  • No, it is the same question, however I did not mention that I work for a large company that has a Select agreement. I first mistakenly made it sound like I was an individual user that had a Select agreement. So the answer that was given was under this premise and mostly likely is a correct answer. When I added the real condition that I have, the answer is no. It is not possible to obtain a node lock license for a single work station if your company has a Select Agreement established. This is based on Bentley's "cover one cover all" policy. At first I did not think that the condition I later mentioned to Abhishek would matter, but it does.
