SES subscription license and Connection Client

Hi,

My company has a single license for Staadpro and we ran into some over usage issue recently after switching to Version 22 of Staadpro.

I have several PCs with the Staadpro installed and in order to use the software, the user will need to login into the license account via the connection client.

After the session is over and the user closes the software, does the user need to log off the account? There are occasions where several PCs will be

login to the account via connection client but only one PC running Staadpro. Will this incur over usage charges? Thanks.

I am glad I am not the only one having this over usage issue. Seems like it's quite common. I am also wondering why Bentley can't just limit the

license holder to just use the actual number of licenses instead of allowing user to accidentally over use the software and hence incurring charges.

  • Hi,

Once the user closes the application, someone else on a different machine can sign in to use the application without getting an overage.  Subscription Entitlement Service allows for alerts to be set so that everyone that can log in will get an alert if they try to log in and the license is already in use.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Glenn,

Thanks for your quick response. Since I have 6 pc in total with the Staadpro application installed, do you mean I should only log on to use staadpro and log out (via connection client) once I close the staadpro application so that another user can log on and use Staadpro? What would happen if connection client is still logged on on one pc (But Staadpro not started) when another user on another pc try to start Staadpro? Will this cause over usage?

I have set up an alert for the 1 license I am holding for Staadpro but so far I have not seen any alert flashing on the screen since I made sure only one user will start Staadpro app at any one time. But the thing is connection client can remain logged on on several pc even when there are no one using Staadpro. My question would be, does logging in via connection client means I am already using the staadpro license on that pc? Or the license is only being used when Staadpro is started? Bear in mind now adays, I can only start staadpro by logging into Bentley account otherwise Staadpro will shut down if I choose not to log on at the time.

  • Hi,

Being logged into just the CC will not cause an overage if someone else is already logged into the application.

    Thanks,

    Glenn

  • Connection Client is separate from the StaadPro license. You can stay signed in to Connection Client all day long, but you will only use a StaadPro license while you are using StaadPro. Once you close StaadPro, that license is released for someone else to use.

Connection Client doesn't use any package licenses. As I said, you can leave that open all day, and it doesn't affect your license usage. It's a different bit of software (more of a standalone app).
