SS4 - stopping support question

My understanding is that Bentley are stopping support for MicroStation SS4 at the end of the year. Is that still correct?

Also I have seen somewhere that if we use CE and SS4 at the same time (after support fro SS$ has stopped) this will count as two licence usages. Again, is this correct?

  • Now Bentley Systems again is sending some scary email(invoice not again?) letters(titled:Rediscover SELECT) to users that it is now good time to sign SELECT with SELECTserver soon to be switched off go figure. More like it is the worst time to sign SELECT as now for half of sites who signs SELECT gets a QTL instantly because there are actually no two licensing pools of non-SELECT and SELECT server as users expect and if all old licenses are not checked in(and there are no tools for non-SELECT to do that in bulk) at the moment of signing then they get invoice even with retroactive usage. Please sort this out and at least give some grace period for customers to upgrade to SES. Also there is additional fee for upgrading old v8i licenses which is not mentioned anywhere(similar as it was disaster with "Autodesk License Upgrade Program")

    From email:

need the flexibility to handle spikes in your workload

Yes nice to have but only to handle spikes not extrapolate these spikes to 3 month period.

Plus, you'll only pay for what you use. Under a Cloud Services Subscription, your term license use is measured monthly, a significant advantage over the quarterly measurement for a standard term license

Somehow our users don't feel the same. They already pay for subscription and sign CSS with already existing licenses is too complicated to understand.

Ok maybe my view is too local as we really don't have big corporations with hundreds of licenses which can benefit from flexibility but even then not sure how they could budget such flexibility. Our users are not yet ready for SaS because software is still considered as investment and fixed asset.
