SELECTserver V8 comes configured to allow 5 MicroStation usages to be checked out for a period of 30 days. To change this or to make additional licenses available for checkout, SELECTserver must be properly configured. This is done in the SELECTserver\checkout.inf file.
Open the file in Notepad and you will see instructions followed at the bottom by only one uncommented line:
FEATURE="MicroStation" TERM="30" USAGES="5"
(Note that this is what appears by default in the checkout box in MicroStation.)
To add features to those available for checkout, add additional lines to the file, one for each feature. Copy the entire "FEATURE=" line and paste it underneath itself in the checkout.inf file. Then edit the feature name on each line. The feature name is important because it must exactly match the way the feature appears in SELECTserver V8.
Go to the SELECTserver Administrative interface and click on "License List". It will look similar to this:
From the list of licensed products, find the desired Feature name in the Feature column.
IMPORTANT: You must use the name exactly as it appears in the list, including any special capitalization, but WITHOUT the word "Commercial".
For instance, note in the screen shot above that Powerdraft is called, "Bentley Powerdraft Commercial". For this, your statement in the checkout.inf file would be:
FEATURE="Bentley Powerdraft" TERM="30" USAGES="5" <--- Note the capital "B" and the capital "P" in the name Bentley Powerdraft.
Also, note that AutoPIPE Commercial has an odd capitalization. For this, the feature statement would look like this.
FEATURE="AutoPIPE" TERM="30" USAGES="5"
Edit the TERM and USAGES fields as you require. TERM can be up to 99 days. USAGES can be any number and is not limited to the number of licenses you actually have. Once that actual limit of licenses is reached, no more usages will be allowed, but SELECTserver won't error if the USAGES number is higher than the actual number of seats.
Save the file and then go to the Check Out List in the Administrative Interface. Click on the "Reload Check Out Access File" link. The checkout list should then show the changes in the "Access Summary" portion of the window.
When checking out these additional licenses from within MicroStation, you will need to browse to the appropriate local license file first. Browse to msv8.lic to checkout MicroStation, but if, for instance, you are checking out a Powerdraft license, you'll need to change to the draftv8.lic by clicking the Browse button at the top of the License checkout dialog box. This is necessary because the checkout procedure writes a temporary license string to the local license. If it's not written to the correct file, the license won't work once the machine is disconnected from the network. looks like in the "Code" style.
