This TechNote addresses issues with installing Bentley product license files for "stand alone" computers. If you are having trouble installing your new license, please review the following before contacting Bentley.
The license is delivered via an email attachment from the Bentley Administration Center (BAC). The file should be delivered with the correct file name. Copy the attachment to the appropriate directory. See TechNote 8271 to confirm license file names and directory paths.
Note: The full text of the license file is also included in the body of the license delivery email. In the past, users were instructed to copy this text and paste it into Notepad to create their license file. This proved to be problematic and is NO LONGER NECESSARY. All licenses are now delivered as email attachments. The file should be saved from the email directly to the appropriate licensing directory.
Once the license file is in place, launch the product and it should start.
Problems with Node locked licenses normally fall under one of three categories, indicated by the error message received.
1. A license for this product could not be found.
When MicroStation starts, it looks by default in the ...Bentley\Program\Licensing directory for a file called msv8.lic. This message indicates that the file itself was not found. This means that either the file is named incorrectly, (this is unlikely since the file attachment should be named correctly in the email) or that the file is in the wrong directory. Check to make sure the file is named properly and in the right place.
2. No license usages were found to match your request.
This message means the license file was found, but did not contain a license usage for the product being launched. This could be a problem with the product or version being used. Open the license file in Notepad and confirm what product and version it should be running. If the license does not contain the product and version needed, contact the Bentley Administration Center that serves your region to request a license with the correct product and version.
3. A Fingerprint (Computer ID) mismatch was encountered between the license and the computer in use.
"Node Locked" licenses, as they are called, are just that; locked to a particular node (i.e. computer) name. This prevents one license from being used on multiple machines. This error indicates that the name of the computer does not match the name on the license. Note that the error message dialog box lists the actual name of the computer.
If necessary, confirm your computer name:
Windows 2000: start > settings > control panel > system > network identification Windows XP: start > control panel > system > computer name To fix this, contact the Bentley Administration Center that serves you region to request a license with a name that matches the computer being used.
