Please see the following frequently ask questions.
1. What is CONNECT Licensing?
CONNECT Licensing is Bentley’s new licensing model that provides additional functionality requested by our users. License entitlements are granted and maintained through User Management by the replacement of site activation keys with user validation, enhancing security around your Bentley licenses and subscriptions.
2. Where can I get the CONNECT Licensing Adapter?
It is available from the Fulfillment Center under the brand ‘Bentley Cloud Services’. Please be sure to check your application’s compatibility before installing the Adapter.
3. How do I enable it?
First, your users must become “Connected” by registering on our User Management system, installing the CONNECTION Client, and signing into the CONNECTION Client with their new user name and password. Once your users have completed that process, they will need to download and install the CONNECT License Adapter.
4. Can I disable it?
Removing the CONNECT License Client Adapter from Add/Remove Programs will revert you back to product activation keys.
5. Why doesn’t the CONNECT Licensing Adapter come installed with Bentley applications?
As we move forward with newer CONNECT Edition applications, the CONNECT License Adapter will be included. At this time, we are integrating the new licensing technology as we review historical versions already deployed by our users.
6. Does it work with every Bentley application?
Not at this time. However, we are currently certifying the CONNECT License Client with our applications. The list of available applications will continue to expand. The Administrator can see the list of applications in the ‘Entitlement Management’ service under ‘Applications and Services’ in the CONNECTION Center.
7. If I have CONNECT Licensing enabled for a Bentley application loaded and I install a newer product version, is CONNECT Licensing automatically enabled?
No. The user will need to open the Bentley Licensing Tool then go to Tools > Adapter Update Wizard. Follow the prompts to complete the enabling of a new application. This will also be the case for any new machines added after the original Adapter installation.
8. Do I need any special roles?
The Administrator needs to have the Entitlement Management role assigned so that they can set the appropriate notification and access settings. End users do not need any special role assigned.
9. Is there an offline mode?
Yes. The Administrator can choose to enforce sign in, thus disabling offline usage.
10. Can users still check out a license?
Yes. License checkout still functions. This can be done by the Administrator via the Entitlement Management Service or by the user in the Bentley Licensing Tool.
11. Does CONNECT Licensing restrict usage?
No. Users can still use more applications than they have licenses, however they can enable a notification letting users know when they are about to exceed a certain number of seats set by the Administrator in Entitlement Management.
12. Can I restrict a user from gaining access to a specific application?
Yes. The Administrator can add or remove entitlements for single or multiple applications per user.
13. How do I know I am about to overuse?
A dialog box will display a warning notification to the user when they are about to exceed a limit set by the Administrator. A custom message can be created by the Administrator to provide the user with instructions on what to do when that notification appears.
14. What do I do after I get the license message that I am about to exceed usage?
In keeping with the Trust License philosophy, the user can either end the application session or exceed the license count. The Administrator will be notified during any overage if that option is enabled in the Entitlement Management Service.
