Configuration, Installation Options and MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 4

IMPORTANT FOR CAD ADMINISTRATORS

With the release of MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 4 we have made several enhancements to the Configuration setup during Installation and while using MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 4.

The changes are especially important to note if you are a CAD Administrator because Update 4 will replace your existing WorkspaceSetup.cfg file.  Your original (Update 3 and previous versions) WorkSpaceSetup.cfg file will stay in  C:\ProgramData\Bentley\CONNECT Edition\Configuration\ and the new WorkspaceSetup.cfg file will go into C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\Configuration\

If you customized the WorkspaceSetup.cfg file in Update 3 or prior Updates, then simply copy it to the new folder, C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\Configuration\

Another change is the ability to select a custom Configuration folder at Install time.  First, on the first page of the Installer click on Configure

Now you can now define the root user Configuration directory of the product. The WorkSpaces in this Configuration folder are displayed in the User Configuration section in the WorkSpace drop-down of the Work Page when you start MicroStation CONNECT Edition.  The Delivered Configuration is the MicroStation Example files (MetroStation).

1. Select the Custom Configuration option.

2. Select the ellipsis (three dots) and browse to your shared (usually network) configuration location.

Help is also available on this page by clicking on the question mark next to "Configuration" near the top.

The configuration file ConfigurationSetup.cfg is created which contains the path of the Custom Configuration folder, by default, C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\Configuration\ but you can change this location by changing the location of the Delivered Configuration.

As noted there was a change in Configuration Directory. The default Delivered or Installed Configuration directory path is now changed from C:\ProgramData\Bentley\CONNECT Edition\Configuration to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\<product_name> CONNECT Edition\Configuration. This Configuration directory contains the delivered MetroStation Example WorkSpace and as notedou can change this directory during installation.

Another enhancement is the ability to change the location of DGN WorkSet (DGNWS) file. By default, the DGN WorkSet files (.dgnws) are stored in the root folder of the WorkSet. If you want to move this file to another location, so as to separate the location of your design data (DGN) and configuration data, one of the following configuration variables can be used: _USTN_WORKSETDGNWS which defines the location of the DGNWS file of a WorkSet. This configuration variable should be defined in the WorkSet's .cfg file. Also, the variable _USTN_WORKSETSDGNWSROOT defines the location of DGNWS files of all the WorkSets in a WorkSpace. This configuration variable should be defined in the WorkSpace's .cfg file.

One more change. We added a WorkSet Template option to copy an existing WorkSet folders, files, DGNWS files and cfg file.  The idea is to create a WorkSet that will function like another WorkSet but without having to start from scratch each time.

Check the Create Folders Only to just create the folders of a WorkSet.  Also, this is a Technology Preview so your input is valuable.

Let us know what you think of these changes!

Note: In MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 4 setting _USTN_WORKSETDGNWS or  _USTN_WORKSETSDGNWSROOT results in duplicate entries being listed in the Configuration Variables dialog, this does not affect their behavior and is a defect we are addressing.
