New in MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 15 – Export/Import Variables and Variations to and from Excel

Variables and Variations play an important role in parametric modeling. Now it is possible to import and export parametric variables and variations to Excel’s .xlsx file format, in addition to the previously supported .csv file format. This enhancement aims at making it easier to work with models that require a large number of variables and variations, allowing you to carry out the data entry or editing operations directly in Excel.

In the Variables dialog, select File > Import/Export, and in the window that opens browse to the location of the Excel file you wish to import data from or you wish to export information to.

To import data from an Excel file, from the Variables dialog navigate to the location of the Excel file (File > Import > Browse), select the file, and click Import. The variables and variations information from the .xlsx file will now be imported to the active DGN and will appear in the Variables dialog.

To export to an Excel file, from the Variables dialog navigate to the location you wish to save the .xlsx file (File > Export> Browse), type a name for the file, and click Export. The variables and variations information from the Variables dialog will be saved in the newly created .xlsx file.

Feel free to share your feedback on this enhancement or ask any questions on our community forums.
