Many of our users had requested enhancements in the Reports dialog to allow summarization and aggregation capabilities within Report definitions. So in Update 15, we have added the capabilities of summarizing data in columns, grouping similar entries, and aggregating information within reports.
Under the Properties section of the Reports dialog, you can now see Groups and Aggregates, and Summarize sections.
You can group similar entries in a column and generate aggregated information like sum, count, average, minimum, and maximum for values corresponding to them.
To group columns, select Groups & Aggregates for the desired report definition and in the Grouping section to the right, add columns using the Add/Remove drop-down button.
In the Aggregates section select the Add rule button to add columns with pre-filled rules. Columns are added sequentially in the order they appear in the report. You can modify the rules for columns in the corresponding Sum drop-down menu and also remove any rules using the button.
You can select Preview Report in the Reports dialog to see a preview of the grouped columns and their corresponding aggregated data.
Report placed as a Table
You can summarize information in specific columns and view the summation at the bottom of the report. For this, select Summarize for the desired report definition and on the right-hand side add columns and adjust rules for the selected columns by selecting the Add rule button. Columns are added sequentially in the order they appear in the report. You can modify the rules for columns in the corresponding Sum drop-down menu and also remove any rules using the button.
Once you are done, select Preview Results in the Reports dialog to preview the report. You will see a preview of the Report generated with the summary displayed at the bottom of the report. If you place the report as a table in a model, you will see the summary as the last row in the table.
