New in MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 17 – Parametric modeling: Enhancements in Variables Dialog

Do you like Parametric Modeling, but you wished creating content was simpler and quicker?

We have great news! MicroStation Update 17 introduces new features to help you become more productive and streamline your workflows.

Enhancements in Variables Dialog

The Variables Dialog is used to create and manage variables and variations for parametric elements.

Check out the video underneath to see our various enhancements:

  • Enhanced Toolbar - the dialog toolbar has a few new tools added, and existing tools rearranged for faster access.

  • Support for folders

We have introduced the capability of creating folders in the variables dialog, to make it easier for you to manage your data. You can place the variables in a folder by copy/paste or drag and drop. Empty folders are not supported, this means when a folder becomes empty it will be removed from the DGN.

  • File and Tools Menu Option & New Icon for Expression Driven Variables & Minimum and Maximum Range Values for a variable & Expression Failure Value

We have added a new icon to identify the variables that are driven by an expression.

Also, you can now set a minimum or maximum value of a variable in its definition in the Variables Dialog. This will help define a safe, allowed range for each variable. You can also use an expression to define the minimum or maximum values.

Moreover, we have added Expression Failure Value to the Properties of a variable in the Variables Dialog. This field is used to define a safe value that will be applied as an active value if there is a mathematical failure value in the Expression used in the same property.
