RealDWG 2015 libraries

Hi Michael,

RealDWG 2015 libraries will be included in a next version of MicroStation, which is now available for testing as AEP (Early Access Preview).

As usual (not in Bentley case only ;-), there is not announced fixed release date for this version.

Just received a reply from Support that re-iterates what Jan said.

They also suggested I pose the following question here - to access the development team.

I'd suspect that it will be quite some time before the x64 version of MicroStation is fully adopted.

And it will be quite some time before the vertical applications are ready for the x64 version of MicroStation to allow adoption.

Any chance that the RealDWG 2015 libraries can be built into a separate install to sit on top of MicroStation SS3 so they are available for use?

We had an internal discussion about making RealDWG 2015 available for SS3, but we were not convinced if there would be any real need for it.  There is no DWG file format change in R2015 and there are no substantial new features.  From what we have heard, C3D object enabler should not cause the incompatible version problems anymore.

Do you mind to collaborate a bit more on what your need for RealDWG 2015?  Anyone else needs it for SS3 is welcome to chime in.

If you are saying that the 2014 RealDWG libraries will handle the Autodesk 2015 data... then that's all I needed to know.

I did try and install the Architecture-MEP 2015 Object Enablers on my machine.

That install did not recognise any target application.

Maybe the Object Enabler install is specifically looking for the RealDWG 2015?

The AEC object enablers are delivered with RealDWG.  MEP has become part of it probably since R2010.  If you have RealDWG 2014, which is the default installation of SS3 sp1, you should have MEP OE.  You can open any DWG file created from any version up to R2015, and your MEP objects should be enabled by default.

Just to clarify one point - my experience with Object Enablers is limited to Civil 3D. While Civil 3D has stabilized the object enablers so that 2013, 2014 and 2015 are forward and backward compatible, I cannot speak for other vertical applications. If anyone knows for sure, please confirm or deny these facts.

I may have just found the need.

Autodesk have published Civil 3D Object Enablers for both 2015 and 2016 Civil 3D versions.
When I try to install the 2015 Civil 3D 32 bit Object Enabler onto a machine that has the realDWG 2014 libraries installed, I get a message:

Setup was unable to detect any target applications for Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015 32 Bit Object Enabler.

Typically, the Object Enabler install would be targeting the realDWG libaray - right? ... which doesn't exist.

I have not attempted to installed the 2016 C3D Object enablers, but would expect the same issue; Missing realDWG 2016.

I have not tested viewing C3D 2015 or 2016 data in MicroStation SS3 as yet. My task is to investigate the integration of all things Bentley (well, PW and MicroStation mainly) with Civil 3D and I'm just begining that testing with the newer Civil 3D (2015/16) versions.
