I have a drawing that has three raster images that I have modified scale, orinataion, and location of as well as edited using Descartes. My client request all drawings be issued back to them in AuotCAD. When I convert the file to AutoCAD everything goes back to the orginal scale and location. I want to take the raster images and make them part of the drawing like merging attacments in the references but with raster images. This way when I convert I don't have to redo work. I know you can do something like this in autocad but I can not find anything for Microstation and looking at other discussions on here fear it can not be done. Can anyone help?
Hi Lorys,
For your information Bentley Descartes is also offering a raster to vector converter. In fact, Bentley Descartes is the product replacing the deprecated IRAS B product.

Hi,
If I convert a .DGN containing a scale/translate JPEG file to DWG in MicroStation and reopen the .DWG the JPEG is at the good location.
So you mean that when you open the DWG in AutoCAD you loose the location?
What type of file format are using for your raster images?
Thanks,
Print to pdf high res preferably
Then search google for pdf to cad or scan to cad..or Raster to Vector...
There are a few free versions online that will turn it into DXF or DWG you can then use microstation to turn the line work into continous lines or bsplines real text etc without an example its hard to know whats best for you.
I did this for somebody a while ago here this forum the key word was OWL so the links to the website should still be there pretty cool but can only do a few files for free..... Bentley used to have a product call IRASB or IRASC ( colour) it would / will convert your raster to vector and merge it in but not free, I never used Descates so I dont know if it have raster to vector..
I use Scan to cad at work was pretty inexpensive <$100 usa .. works very nicely if raster not too spotty...
You cant do raster to vector in out of the box autocad or microstation you have to BUY an addon in either package..
If not too complex you can trace with bsplines and circles squares etc and text is easier to type...
If this is a once off job use the free net verions if you have to do it alot and also edit the rasters buy IRAS/b
If IRAS too expensive BUY Scan to Cad single license <$100. scan to can can take a scan of paper or pfd and turn into dwg/ dxf
Have fun..
