DWG 3D Models opened in Microstation "explode"

I'm having issues when opening dwg models in Microstation - the drawing elements scatter all over the place.

I've passed on some example dwg files to a fellow Microstation user, and he's able to open the files with no problems, so must be an issue with my system. Funnily enough I'm encountering the same issue on my Desktop (v8i) and Laptop (v8 - converted dwg to 2007 version to see if that helped - same issue).

Any ideas on what's going wrong or how to begin trouble shooting this issue?

need to see all your settings , level manager, level display manager, View attributes settings, refmanager...

Can you see how many element counts are in the  DWG level display / manager

what if you select all what does the element count report in the comment bar? Do they match?

Do you have an acad viewer like TrueView .. you can use this to compare what it should look like...

What happens if you ref attach the said dwg  into an empty  dgn and use say an override of all colour 0 on the ref file... can you see everything now?
