The following article may also help as it describes best practices for creating and working with Point Cloud Files in Bentley Products
It can be found in:
HELP>ABOUT MICROSTATION
The version will be in the form of: XX.XX.XXX.XXX
Do you have additional Bentley Software installed such as Pointools or Descartes?
Could you send a screenshot of the error message you are seeing? I would also recommend trying the conversion in MicroStation CONNECT on a 64 bit system.
Regards
Derval Canny.

RE: Point Cloud

Hi,

I agree with Geoerge .las file should be converted automatically to MicroStation native .pod format and when the input data are huge, it can required quite long time to finish the conversion.

The problem is some information are missing:

What MicroStation version do you use?

What is the size of your .las file?

You mentioned "working error". What does it mean exactly and what is a message reported by MicroStation?

If not used already, you should try MicroStation CONNECT Edition. It's 64bit application, so it is able to handle much bigger data.

With regards,

 Jan

RE: Point Cloud

What software and version are you using???

If using MicroStation V8i (Ss3) it should automatically create the .pod file when loading the .las file format using the Point Cloud dialog. There is a Convert tool in the same dialog under "File" pull-down. Some of the Point Cloud files are rather large and can take some time to convert, so you have to be patient. M-Sta. may be working in background. Try loading it overnight to see if it will actually generate the .pod. You can also try breaking/separating the las file into smaller areas using another software then load.
