Revit model import + ifc importing

We will shortly be reciving a revit model of a large housing complex from another firm of architects as we are now taking over the job for the detailing/production information stages. The model is simply the base model with no construction detail. We have AECOsim SS6. I have requested the model in ifc format.

Will this readily import into AECOsim in ifc form to enable us to take plans, sections and elevations from the model?

Should we ask for the model in a different format or is ifc the way to go?

I just want to be prepared for the file arriving so I know what to expect!

Many thanks in advance

Keith

If you want to edit the data in AECOsm then you need the IFC file.  I would also request a DWG file of the same data, this would be to compare models to make sure nothing is missing.  Another software would be Solibri model reviewer.  This can review the IFC file so see if there are any missing items etc.

If you want to simply review the data and so not need to edit anything, then as Duncan mentioned, get them to export the revit model to i-model

  • Thanks Ian, we are basically wanting to take their model and use it to take plan section elevations throughout the model for working in 2D, and they have already given us the base plans and elevations in dwg format.

  • Keith,

As Ian and Duncan have suggested there are a couple of methods to do this. I would encourage you to request the imodel/idgn from the revit imodel plugin. the idgn format is, IMO, way better to work with than IFC. retains more information than exports to ifc and is very light to work with.

secondly you can either directly open or reference the ifc file, OR, and probably better for you in this instance, is to import the ifc. This will allow you to split into relative floor levels and also remap elements to your dataset, which will allow you to resymbolise if needed.
