you can try to add this request to Ideas section.
Unfortunately this good idea how to collect inputs from users has become "black hole" where you can post anything and you will never receive any reaction or response from Bentley how idea was evaluated and what will be further steps (99.9% of comments are from other users, never from Bentley).

2nd that, Bentley seems resistant to any added functionality that competes with other Bentley products. I got a few of these bones as well.

yes, it's often used justification, but it's not true in my opinion and quite tiny functionality overlap does not results in e.g. MStn and ORD competion.
To support (only) geometry from advanced industry specific formats like IFC or (City)GML does not mean professionals will prefer MicroStation over special products with huge advanced functionality like ORD, OCM (OpenCities Map) or others, but it will make MicroStation better tool for people that need to access just basic data.
With regards,
Exactly, we make only 3d design and visuals - sometimes we only need GML buildings as background to our projects ( no need edit or something )

You could use only the geometry content of GML in MicroStation? That is, the rich set of GIS feature attributes would not be required?

Yes, 3d geometry - now i use FZVK viewer to merge and convert but not so comfortable and crash sometimes
