Dwg Seed & Acad 'Display Resolution'

Hi,

We have been having problems with our linestyles not displaying in dwg true view (and AutoCad).

After exporting dgn > dwg we generally open the resultant dwg in dwg TrueView2011 to check that our client will see the file as we expect them to.
I discovered in TrueView the exported file has a resolution set to 100 (TruView and Acad Menu: Tools>Options>Display>Display Resolution Arc and Circle smoothness)

When I change this to 1000 hay presto the linstyles display correctly.
Checking the DWGSeed file in TrueView  I found the Display Resolution is already 1000. This must mean it is being changed down to 100 during the conversion but I can't find where this is set in the dwg export options.

Any help is much appreciated.

Mike

  • Have you set "ltscale" in microstation?

    keyin: "DWG LTSCALE <scale>",

to set sthe scaling for your linestyles!

  • Hi Frank,

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try that when I'm back in the office tomorrow, but I don't think it will fix the problem.

What I want to know is why my dwg seed file has a value of 1000 for Display Resolution Arc and Circle smoothness (determined by opening the dwg seed in TrueView), while my resultant dwg from the export has a value of 100.

With the value of 100 circles are heavily faceted along with custom linestyles displaying as solid lines.

When I set the value to 1000 in dwg TrueView (which won't stick because its just a viewer) my linestyles display perfectly (at the intended scale) and circles are now round.

I never saw a setting for display resolution in microstation within the "save as DWG" process.

    How did you set it?

IMHO, display resolution for arc and circle stroking is  a AutoCAD/TrueView application setting.

I'm not aware , no I don't know , something about  a ACAD-system variable that stores this setting in DWG-file.

  • Hi Frank,

I would have thought the same but according to AutoCad Documentation the setting is in the dwg

    From...

    http://docs.autodesk.com/ACD/2010/ENU/AutoCAD%202010%20User%20Documentation/index.html?url=WS1a9193826455f5ffa23ce210c4a30acaf-4976.htm,topicNumber=d0e281669

    "Arc and Circle Smoothness

Controls the smoothness of circles, arcs, and ellipses. A higher number produces smoother objects, but more time is required to regenerate, pan, and zoom the objects. You can improve performance by setting this option to a low value such as 100 for drawing, and increasing the value for rendering. The valid range is 1 to 20,000. The default setting is 1000. This setting is saved in the drawing. To change the default for new drawings, consider specifying this setting in the template files on which you base your new drawings."

I didn't set this in microstation just noted when opening my exported files in TrueView they have a value of 100. Opening the seed file in TrueView shows a value of 1000 (as it should). So microsation is changing this setting on the export although there appears to be no config variable or setting in the dwg export dialog to specify it.

    We are using V8i SS2 08.11.07.443

    Thank you for the Acad-document-info.

Best way you are opening a TR Ticket with the Select Servies Ticketmanager from Bentley.
