Is there something more that needs to happen for the DWG command prefix to work?
It is defined as "\". I had it working (some time ago) and I just tried it again but I get "Ambiguous command"

Try a DWG explicit command or event to get required DLL's loaded. The idea is that if you never need to do any DWG work, you may not want to load DWG DLL's to slow down your startup time.
