What kind of cad-files?
LAYERS (DWG terminology) and Levels (Microstation terminology) are the same!
use the SAVE AS(options)/remapping register to see what can be done and how it has to be done!

thanks frank our end user is a DOT who still uses 63 levels
frank when I go to do my save as the (save as v8 options) the 5 fields under the CSV file are greyed out and can't be clicked on. any ideas
Have you loaded *.csv file and have you added required Levels/Layers for remapping in this csv file? If you haven't, that is why you see 5 fields greyed out (adding levels in csv file for remap - enables first option "Apply Level Mapping"; next fields enables after you add Fonts, Lines styles etc.).
Check the Wiki arctible for power of CSV file: communities.bentley.com/.../the-power-of-csv.aspx
and this blog: communities.bentley.com/.../import-export-and-remap-of-levels-using-csv-files.aspx
This should explain you how to edit CSV file.
Hope it helps.

Darius,
thanks, I was able to get the levels and line styles to come up on the excel spread sheet, but not the colors weights, fonts or cells. although none of the boxes were able to be checked. I read the two links you attached they were a help. any guess on why the other information didn't come in..
Chris, you mean was able to import 'Levels' and 'Line Styles' by selecting the icon/button in execl worksheet (that icon is not in other worsheets) or manually added those lines?
Have you read instructions in each worksheet and the instructions worksheet? let say remaping Cell with CSV is only saving to DGN V7 file format.
Maybe older way writing remap table would be easier. Following old wiki article: communities.bentley.com/.../csv-files-remapping-your-data.aspx
and maybe this: communities.bentley.com/.../2952.aspx
You may attach your created *.csv file so we could review it. I have just tested creating new *.csv and all works.
