Hi
Is there a way to save the view (MicroStation v8i) or fence as geotiff or as tiff with a worldfile? I guess there has to be a way... but so far I couldn't find it.
(Reason: create a nice 'view' within a DGN file and perhaps several referenced DGN files and export this specific view (for example defined by a fence) to a georeferenced tiff file which will be imported to a GIS)
Hope you know more than me! Thanks
Hello,
You can capture an image in Microstation by going to utilities - image - capture but this will not be georeferenced. There are several different methods to capture the image by in the tool that you can choose from. If you have Descartes which is an add-on to Microstation you can use the Merge tool. You can then capture an area defined by a fence and for the output you can choose any format that Microstation has the ability to write to which includes a geotiff or tif with world file.

most gis packages can import DGN ..
set a datum via geotools
Then just fence file your data ie place fence then keyin FF= <file name you want it to be>
then data point inside fence to confirm... Better that geotiff
I used to import and export dgn to Mapinfo all the time via the Universal Translator in MapInfo...

@ Jason: Thanks, but I don't have Descartes. Do I guess right that the resolution would not be too good as it works more or less like 'print screen'?
@ Lorys: Sounds not too bad. I thought the easiest way would be a raster with an accurant resolution but perhaps a (nicely arranged) DGN would be ok as well. Is there a downside as well? I am a bit blockhead at the moment: If I would convert this created DGN to a shapefile - would I get one or several (each per geometry type) SHP files? (I don't have a GIS in front of me an cannot install one as I am not the administrator.... -> can't test it personaly now)
you cant export to shape files with plain mstn , only import but you dont need to just fence file to DGN
then let the gis user IMPORT dgn .. your drgs are already georefed via xy northings & eastings right?
Yes, the drawings are georeferenced.
The drawing should just be additional information (turn on/off) for dummy GIS users. Therefore I'm a bit afraid of 'offering' DGN and thought it's less risky if they get a SHP (not directly exported from Microstation but converted afterwards). You don't see a problem?
