Description: This MicroStation SIG event will discuss the use of reference technology in MicroStation.  There are so many parts and pieces to references, so we will look at topics from (A)ttach to (Z)-depth!

A DGN file is composed of models. When you place elements with MicroStation tools, the elements are added to the active model. A model can be either 2D or 3D and is stored as a separate object within a DGN file.

A reference is a model that is attached to, and displayed along with, the active model for various purposes. When you use a design file that was created by someone else, you generally want to look at it without modifying it. For example, you may attach a collection of survey points as a guide for placement of additional geometry.  References let you do this.  Just remember that References are a look (view, measure, print, etc) but do not touch (edit) technology.

To get maximum benefit from this Special Interest Group “flipped classroom” meeting, registrants will be assigned to watch some free videos introducing reference files in MicroStation.  Questions can then be posted on Be Communities.  The webinar itself will briefly go over the assigned videos, and then will answer any questions that have been posted or asked during the webinar.
