Place Cell relative issue - wrong levels be applied

Hello.

I have a issue by placing a cell relative.

The cell was created with the level 1, 2 & 3.

If I place it relative and the active level for ex. is 10, normaly the cell will be placed with the levels 10, 11 & 12.

But this will not work.

Level 1 will be placed as level 8, level 2 as level 9 and level 3 as level 3

I use V8i SS3 8.11.9.459 and have following additional informations:

- The cell is a "bigger" cell with more then 1000 elements.

- Creating a little test cell with 3 circles on different level and placing them relativ will work correctly.

- After creating a new cell library and creating a new cell from this "bigger" graphic, placing it relativ will also working good.

What is the reason for this issue?

It seems the problem will be the cell library....!?

Because I have a lot of cells, I hope I did not to have to create a new cell library with all this stuf....

Thanks a lot

Regards

  • Hi Reginald,

    Yes, I just have prepared a file.....

    In the cell library you can see 3 cells, the "2shapes" and the "3shapes" will work fine by placing relative,

    but the "switch" will use any unexplaines levels during placing relative......

    What I could see now is that for the level 1, 2 & 3 in the level manager there is only shown the level name but not a level number......

    Where can I see what is the level number from any level without a number in the level manager....??

    Thanks a lot

    Regards

  • Is there a specific reason you are wanting to use the "relative" functionality ? also - is there a reason you are using level numbers rather than level names ? Most of the functionality you are referring to was used mainly with the V7 file format, the new format really didn't have a need for this.

  • Hi Tim.

    A reason to use relative......, I give it a try to explain it... :)

    The cell "switch" consist from 3 parts.

    1. Graphic from the switch (all lines and symbols)

    2. Text and data fields

    3. A filled shape for giving the switch a color (is set transparend 80% and priority -100)

    Now I want to have only one cell, but when placing it I want to have the opportunity to give it different colors, corresponding to the switch "type".

    For example:

    All switches for the office network should be gray, PCN blue and red for firewall .......

    I have defined level groups:

    Level 1 = Device - Switch - office network - Graphics       -> (Color by level=black)

    Level 2 = Device - Switch - office network - Text                -> (Color by level=black)

    Level 3 = Device - Switch - office network - filling              -> (Color by level=grey)

    Level 4 = Device - Switch - PCN - Graphics                      -> (Color by level=black)

    Level 5 = Device - Switch - PCN - Text                             -> (Color by level=black)

    Level 6 = Device - Switch - PCN - filling                           -> (Color by level=blue)

    Level 7 = Device - Switch - Firewall - Graphics                 ->(Color by level=black)

    Level 8 = Device - Switch - Firewall - Text                        -> (Color by level=black)

    Level 9 = Device - Switch - Firewall - filling                       -> (Color by level=red)

    *

    *

    *

    Now I can place this cell and by set the first level of the corresponding level group as activ and using "place relative" the right color I have defined in the Level will be used.

    Hope to have explained it clearly.... :)

    ".........also - is there a reason you are using level numbers rather than level names ?"

    I think that the level numbers are the primary information and internally microstation always works with the level numbers and not with their names ......

    Or am I wrong ???

    But I've never understood the relationship between the level numbers and name.

    Also i do not understand why sometimes in the level manager no number is displayed and on the other hand, only the names are displayed in the "remap window" and no numbers .....

    Thank you

    Regards

  • Is there a reason you have 3 separate levels being used ? Why not actually draw the graphics and the text black instead of "bylevel" and then draw the shape "bylevel" and put everything on one level. Then place the cell on the needed level for the fill color ?
