In our powerdraft drawings we have links to excel spreadsheets. The way we would like this to work is to have those links look into the same folder as the drawing is currently in to find the spreadsheet. That way we can create a copy of this spreadsheet and put it into the project folder with our drawings for each project.
The problem we are having is that the links are only looking into the original location of where the spreadsheet was when the links were created, and so no matter where we create copies of the spreadsheet, the links keep trying to look for the original spreadsheet only. This doesn’t work, as the original spreadsheet is shared by all members of our group, and does not get updated for each project.
We need a way to correct this without having to update every link for every drawing with every project. There are far too many of them. When the drawings are moved to a new folder, the links need to also point to that new folder.

I believe that the limitation is imposed by Microsoft Object Linking and Embedding (OLE).

I think you can reproduce the problem in a purely Microsoft context. For example, using OLE to place a Microsoft Excel worksheet in Microsoft Word. You'll need to discuss it with Microsoft.
Hi Jon,
Thank you for your reply. First of all, does Powerdraft support to link external resources by using relative path rather than physical path? If yes, then how?
There was a similar request made for DDE links but no change every made as this could not be controlled by MicroStation. The bottom line here is path always determines the location of the OLE link as was previously stated this would be something you would need to discuss with Microsoft.
