Is there a key-in to open a drawing in read-only mode from the MicroStation key-in line (from inside MicroStation? Something like: NEWFILE -r <filename>
Kind Regards,

This article is of assistance. Keyin to Open Read Only > http://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/f/19565/t/41024
if you install Bentley view ( its free) then in windows explorer you can choose the open with and select bentley view...it only opens read only.
alternative is to make a copy of the mstn icon and edit its short cut parameters to include the /r then you can in explorer drag the file onto the edited icon and load a read only session

Thank you for your replies. I'm aware of how to start MicroStation in the read-only mode. In this case however, I am interested in opening another session from within MicroStation, but have it be read-only. Phil said something in the thread that Judy posted that has me close. He said, "set the MicroStation configuration variable MS_READONLY to 1 before starting up a MicroStation session". This prompted me to come up with this key-in to set READ-ONLY on, open new session then set READ-ONLY off. Like this:
EXPAND SET MS_READONLY = 1;K,NEWSESSION ;EXPAND SET MS_READONLY = 0
There is a PROBLEM with MicroStation handling this though. When I use key-ins to set MS_READONLY, the new session is not read-only. A quick check in the Workspace Config dialog shows that the variables do, in fact get set to 1 and then to 0 when I key them in separately.
When I set the MS_READONLY variable through the Workspace Config dialog, this work flow works. (The new session is read-only).
This should be really cool! Any ideas what I can do to get this to work?
