I have just started work at a new desktop with XM Version 08.09.04.88 after having worked with V8i for ages and amongst other strange phenomenon my Level Manager opens up automatically when I start the program. Anybody know why this is happening? I have tried closing the dialog and saving settings but this doesn't help.
It is possible. One way to determine that is to take a look at the configuration variable processing being done when MicroStation starts -- see the MSDebug File article for more details regarding this.
if you can copy and rename an other users upf file then try that first .. if not then delete your upf file and restart mstn then it rebuilds a new upf set and you can then customise how you want it to look and save settings... personally I like haveing the ref manger the level manager and view level display manger all coming on at open dgns but I have two screens so I move everything to second screen and have only tools and view 1 on left screen.. so those others mangers don't bother me...

Just a note to identify that deleting (or renaming) the user preference file may seem like a quick fix, but more often than not does not "solve" your actual problem. Although it may appear to rectify your immediate situation, there very likely could be a different (and possibly more serious) issue that is the root problem -- see Think you have a problem caused by a UPF? Not so fast... for more details.
