I am working with modifying some closed shapes. I would like to work in AccuDraw's polar mode and grab the shape by one of the segments.
If I have "Enable SmartLine modifications" checked in the Tool Settings dialog, which allows me to pick the shape by one of the segments, the AccuDraw compass changes from Polar to Rectangular when the segment is chosen. I must then hit the space bar again to change back to Polar and do what I need to. Once the segment is relocated, AccuDraw changes back to Polar. It stays on Polar if the box is not checked, but then I am not able to choose the shape by a side (segment). I would like to know how to keep it from changing and have it stay on whichever I have chosen before using the command.
I am hoping there is a setting somewhere that I am missing.

I am uploading a video of a situation where I feel like I need to have the compass in polar mode. Maybe there is another way of doing this just as easily in rectangular mode. I just don't understand the default behavior.
Unknown said:BUT I believe it is very rare for a command to not give the option to lock/use a setting and therefore I believe that this type of behavior is non-typical. For the user to set a setting and have the software change it mid command without the option to adjust the setting seems very out of the ordinary to me.
The setting is the base mode for AccuDraw to use in the event that the tool doesn't have a preference. It is also not uncommon for tools to send AccuDraw hints that include a mode change, the modify element tool isn't an aberation. For example, the place shape tool also requests that the mode be changed to rectangular.
So what you are asking for is that AccuDraw ignore all tool hints to change mode from the base mode, I don't think anyone has ever requested this...
Also, as mentioned, there is a setting to control this, "Context Sensitivity"...I just personally think it's better to work with it on since the tool hints are helpful more often than not. It's pretty difficult to pick and choose what tools are allowed and not allowed to change. A tool that wants to lock the angle may not behave correctly if it's not also allowed to change mode to polar, etc. That's why Context Sensitivity works the way it does, i.e. tool controls AccuDraw, vs. user controls AccuDraw. Hi all,
I created a video for the workflow I proposed earlier, which doesn't required to change AccuDraw default settings and behaviour.
With regards,

Unknown said:How did you get it to change from dragging just the point to select the edges so the corner & both edges moved together? When I do that operation I can only get it to drag the point.
Alt key changes the vertex drag mode between (what I called) vertex priority and angle priority.
