Reset (right click) not returning to default command (selection tool)

We just upgraded our systems to Windows 7 and V8i SS3 from XP and V8i SS2.

We are using ProjectWise.  All hardware is just simple out-of-the box Dell keyboard & mouse.

Only software was updated.  Hardware has not changed.

In the old XP/SS2 environment, a right click would return me to the selection tool.  This no longer works. It doesn't seem to do anything.  The current command/tool remains active.

I searched online, found some info about changing some options in the Look & Feel part of preferences.  But, none of the changes caused anything to change.

How can I change the right cilck behavior in Microstation V8i SS3 to escape/cancel current command and return to my default tool which is the Selection tool?

Thanks.

P.S. I do have ESC set up to cancel commands, but I am looking for my mouse to act the same way in SS3 as it did in SS2.

EDIT:  I am still using XP/SS2 on top of my Win7/SS3 via a VDI login and the buttons work as expected, so it is not a mouse hardware problem.

  • If you were pre-selecting the element, then starting a tool like Move Element, a reset does exit to the Element Selection tool. But when starting the tool and then picking elements, a reset just cycles between overlapping elements and restart the tool. This hasn't changed from SS2 to SS3.

So, I'm out of ideas; I don't know how you accomplished this on SS2 without doing something along the lines of what Lorys suggested.

    * Lorys, you never use reset to cycle between overlapping elements? Do you use tentative for this instead?

  • I have 5 button mouse  with scroll wheel , my scroll wheel is also a click down button so I use it for tentative  I hate the cord thing as I started mstn with Intergraph work station then moved to pc and hated the 2button mouse cord thing.. as soon as 3 button was available I updated  even if I have to buy it myself...  so tent always middle button

left = data , right = reset, X1 =  fit view, x2 = run print script  ( very long but forces fence element , paper size , pent table setting and straight to pdf  BTW I love scripts keyins..)

As for our friends problem  YOU NEED TO HAVE THE ESC key set in in your prefs from you screen shots you don't have it ticked... that's what I have and esc always takes me back to selection tool..

    I'm using ss3 and win 7.. too
