I am trying to save a file with multiple models and references to a file with all references merged. The options are set to merge all external attachments and all self attachments yet when I open the newly created file the self attachments are not merged. I noticed that in the original file the self attachments are marked as Write Locked. How can this be changed so that self attachments are merged when saving as (or exporting)?
another way to do this is just a fence file...fit the view all include refs
then create a fence to include the full view now key in FF=
and hit enter it will prompt you for a file name in the active folder to save the contents of your fence then once done place a data point in the view to confirm your wish to Fence file dgn
and boom a file with all the refs merged but on level that were turned on and visible will be copied out to this file...
Or save as xxyy.dgn
Then in the new file from the ref manger select all the refs and right mouse on selection and option to merge references is there..same result but not as fast as FenceFile
and to remember FF= is easy also
another command SF= this is save contents of active file to new file also handy for spitting data out of one file into another file...

I thought you cant release the lock on Self reffed sub models, that's why Fence File is used instead..
That's what I was saying in the first place ... the orginal poster states he has self ref attachments and cannot untick them and so they wont all merge into one file and they cannot be unticked because they are self refed models they are in use so read only in the active file view..
so the only way for this to work is fence file which creates a new file with all the refs merged ....
