Line Style Issue

Hi,

I've finally created some custom linestyles.  Most of them look good except 2.  One in particular has the text overlapping the dashed line. I can't find anything different with it than the others I've created.  Can you look at the attached screenshot and tell me how to adjust it?  Thanks, Lisa

  • Check the text justification of the GAS symbol.
Make sure if Base Stroke Pattern was set during Point creation.

I have created a sample linestyle and is attached for your reference.
    • Create a Stroke (e.g. GStroke) with Dash and Gap pattern.
    • Create a Point (e.g. GPoint), make sure to set the already created Stroke as Base Stroke Pattern.
    • Create a Symbol (e.g. GSymbol)
    • Create a Compound (e.g. GCompound) and add Sub-Components (GStroke, GPoint)
    • Create a linestyle Name (GAS) and link to GCompound.

If you still have issues, attach the linestyle file.

Verify that the "GAS" symbol is justified in the center of the graphics and you assigned it to the center of the gap in the Stroke. You linked it both the Stroke pattern and the Point symbol in the Compound. Same with the "ELEC"
I am not a believer of having actual Text as symbols. I drop the Text to graphical line work that looks like the text. That way if the font is not available, the line style still looks good.
Looks like for "US GAS" the Gap for the Stroke pattern you used needs to be bigger/longer. Opposite for "AIR”, “VAC”, ELEC”, “US SEWER" & “WATER”. The “SEWER” & “UG WATER” look prefect.
In general (my opinion) the gap between the Text and the Lines shouldn't be more than one character or less than a half a character. The repeat should be between 2 and 3 inches on the final output.
My preference is to set the Dash and Gap lengths to Variable and the dash Width to Full for flexibility
Just constructive criticism and my personal opinion!
