MICROSTATION-TRIM MULTIPLE

Hello,

I am using Microstation V8i SS2.

I am trying to use the trim multiple button and when I am prompted to select cutting edges after selecting the button, I am not allowed to select more than one line as a cutting edge.  I looked at the trim multiple dialog but it does not have any options that would affect multiple cutting edges, only trim, extend or trim and extend options; mine is set to trim.  I have tried pressing the control key to select multiple cutting edges but does not work.  The best work around is to use the break element by point button which is a little inefficient.  How do I select multiple cutting edges to use the trim multiple command?

  • They changed this in ss3 so I'm working from memory but are you using IntelliTrim with advanced setting?

This used to allow for multiple cutting elements and then you do rest and choose the elements to be trimmed..

The other option was I cutting element object   and multiple objects being cut ..follow the prompts and then says trace a cutting line by two data points or data point drag...

sorry cant test this as its no longer intelli trim in ss3 but I used it for years and it feels right in my recollection .. but the prompts are very important with this tool..

other wise try extend to intersection instead of trim... depends what you have  and what you want the result to look like

I do this with tracing a fence then via  placed fence  and clip move instead then turn off the things I want untouched  then clip move fence contents  then delete the fence contents I clip moved..

Turn back on the levels I used to trace for fence and it works prefect..

Follow what MicroStation tells you in Status bar: Trim Multiple > Identify elements to trim (Ctrl to add cutting elements). If Ctrl + element selection doesn't doesn't work, it would be good to provide example of the design file, because Ctrl key should work.

  • The trick to using control to add elements is that you can't pick a single element by picking on it, but you can by dragging over/around it, then hold control to drag over the next cutting element. the drag can also be used to select several elements at a time for use as cutting elements.

one other option, select all the cutting elements first using element selection, then pick the Trim command... all the selected elements should be recognized as cutting elements.
